In the research, the healing effect of the hydroalcoholic extract gel and of the
chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol fractions of the bark of the Ficus citrifolia Mill
was evaluated using the incision wound model and tensiometric method with
histopathological study. The experimental animals were forty-two albino mice,
randomly distributed into six groups of seven members. The groups were evaluated:
hydroalcoholic extract gel at 1% (w / w), gel from each of the fractions at 0.5% (w / w),
silver sulfadiazine cream at 1% (w / w) and base of gel. The phytochemical screening
was performed with 80% hydroalcoholic extract, dissolved in methanol, water and
acidified water. The presence of secondary metabolites such as: flavonoids, qinones,
alkaloids, tannins, non-hydrolysable tannins, triterpenes, α-β unsaturated lactones,
carbon-carbon double bonds and oxidizable compounds was determined by the
coloration and / or precipitation reactions. Also, the chromatographic analysis
determined the presence of triterpenes, flavonoids, tannins, quinones and alkaloids.
The pre-clinical trial, model of insicion, showed healing effect of hydroalcoholic extract
gel and fractions, obtaining a higher percentage of tensile strength of the gel at 0.5%
(w / w) of the fractions, than gel at 1% (w / w) of the hydroalcoholic extract, even the
ethyl acetate fraction was statistically comparable to the effect produced by silver
sulfadiazine cream. The histopathological study corroborated the results of the
pharmacological trial. Finally, it is concluded that the individual or synergistic action of
the phytoconstituents such as: triterpenes, phenolic compounds and alkaloids could be
responsible for the wound healing effect.
